OneReef Model - Story Map
About the Story Map
This informative ArcGIS story map was developed by Rachael DeWitt, a recent graduate from the Masters of Advanced Studies in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego (June 2020). Rachael is interested in community-based coral reef conservation. For her capstone project, she created a communication strategy through an ArcGIS story map highlighting the value of traditional stewardship and science in developing management decisions for coral reefs in Palau. Viewers of the story map can learn about how the Hatohobei community protected of one of the world’s largest atolls from illegal fishing; take virtual dives on coral reefs around Tobi Island and Helen Reef; learn about Palau’s marine conservation ethic; learn about partnerships that have helped protect Palau’s coral reefs; and much more!
